Neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS), is where babies whose mothers used drugs of dependence during pregnancy show symptoms of drug-withdrawal after they are born. This is common in mothers who have used opioids (e.g. heroin, methadone).
This study is exploring the views of parents, health and social care providers in Edinburgh and the Lothians, regarding what NAS is, what it means, and how best to prepare parents and other carers for looking after a baby who has been diagnosed with NAS.
